Veterans Memorials

Robert Shure has had the distinct honor of working with many veterans groups to design and produce a wide variety of monuments and memorials in tribute to those who have served and sacrificed. His designs have ranged from heroic-size bronze figures to compact granite markers. Each piece has been designed to honor our military with dignity and to be a constant tribute to their service to America.

Massachusetts Korean War Veterans Memorial – Charlestown, MA

This Monument is located at the Historic Charlestown Navy Yard which is the same National Park that the U.S.S. Constitution (Old Ironsides) is docked. The 9-foot-high bronze soldier represents “The Forgotten War.” He is alone at night, on sentry duty, staring off into the distance. The icy Korean wind is biting at his back.

This monument was designed to be a place of memory.  Loved ones and the grateful citizens of South Boston have a place to keep the courageous in mind and not forget noble soldiers who were lost at war.  We now have a place to remember them and immortalize their sacrifice. Overlooking Boston Harbor, this memorial plaza has the carved names of those from South Boston who served and paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Woburn Honor Roll – Woburn, MA

This 52-foot-long stone memorial was dedicated on Veterans Day 2012. It is made of 31 monolithic blocks of granite weighing over 35 tons. The names of over 12,000 veterans from Woburn, spanning the Colonial times to the present day, are laser-etched into the polished, black granite. Images that reflect the history of these conflicts are etched within the field of names. It is dramatically lit at night with a bank of LED spotlights. As a constant tribute to those who served, it is fittingly located at the central town common. The granite and laser etching was fabricated in Barre, VT by Buttura & Gherardi Granite Artisans.

Central Massachusetts Korean War Memorial – Worcester, MA

This sculpture expresses the humanitarian contribution of the U.S. Military during the conflict. Thousands of Korean children were orphaned during the war and our servicemen and servicewomen were entrusted to shelter and protect them. The Monument shows a soldier with an orphaned Korean boy in the foreground. The boy is self-assured in his stance and they are both symbolically looking towards the future.

Frank Simoni, a longtime resident of Norwood, Massachusetts and a patriotic American, traveled to Italy in the late 1980’s. He was so inspired by the sculpture and monuments he saw there that upon his return he decided to donate a monument to his hometown. Robert Shure was commissioned to design and create this monumental work to be located in the town common. The three bronze soldiers at the foot of the base are symbolically protecting the American Family represented by the man, woman, and child above. The stone is inscribed with “The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance.”

Robert Shure designs and fabricates all of his sculptures, monuments, and memorials to be made with the most enduring materials and to be as maintenance-free as possible. Other projects include:
